Operations Maturity Assessment

The Operations Maturity Assessment (OMA) is an holistic, qualitative and quantitative benchmark, which enables Operations Heads to assess their operating model, strategy and maturity versus peers, and the potential impacts and drivers of Cost per Trade. In addition, Expand helps identify and analyze optimization opportunities and best practice decision making.

Who is it for?

  • Heads of Operations, Heads of Operations Technology

Frequency

  • Annual report

Scope

  • Operations and Operations Technology groups serving the Investment Bank, and possible cross-divisional interaction. Further the product provides a quantitative focus on metrics at the product level (Capital Markets) with an aggregated dashboard view.

Why do it?

The OMA provides insight into the effectiveness of different Operations operating models and strategies. In addition, the program indicates current trends to help assess the future state of the Investment Banking Operations function. This, in turn, allows firms to assess their current model, as well as keep up with future developments.

The analysis provides actionable cost-savings, by highlighting drivers and cost-levers to help improve efficiency, and can help inform the business case for industry utilities and the degree of functionalization.

What you get

  • A competitor landscape, highlighting differences in business strategy, governance, operating models, client service and technology between firms, in their current and future state
  • Computation of a normalized Cost per Trade by product
  • Breakdown of Operations costs across a number of dimensions, such as function and RTB/CTB
  • Human resourcing strategy looking at FTE distribution by location, by contract type (staff/contractor/outsourced), and average cost per resource
  • Qualitative insights around best practices
  • Participation in the program also provides access to the annual roundtable discussing industry trends with peers and an opportunity to discuss common challenges and share lessons learnt

Client commitment

  • Firms are required to submit extracts from their systems for the relevant data requirements in order to conduct the analysis. Expand will conduct the mapping and modelling of all costs to the normalized taxonomy framework used to compare the firm in coordination with the client.
  • Additionally, Expand will conduct high touch interviews to understand peer strategies and cost drivers.
