Scope

The product can focus in depth on Operations for Corporate and Investment Banking, Retail and Commercial Banking and Wealth and Asset Management, and can also provide an aggregated view of the group-wide function.

Why do it?

The program enables firms to understand the cost, fulfilment and sourcing strategy of operations functions in the context of the demand and complexity of the businesses being serviced, identifying areas that can be targeted for cost reduction without compromising on operational excellence and effectiveness.

What you get

  • Cost analysis includes metrics such as total Ops spend, Ops intensity and IT intensity. Cost intensity is measured against the demand of the relevant business lines (e.g. volumes, AuC, AuM, loan book value). A functional breakdown is also included which illustrates spend by cost type for each function.
  • Human resourcing strategy analyses headcount by cost location (high/medium/low) and by contract type (staff/contractor/outsourced), as well as average cost per resource by cost location and contract type for both Operations and Operations IT resources.
  • Access to member driven industry roundtable events which cover a series of hot topics and industry best practices. Events are typically attended by heads of Operations of member firms.

Client commitment

  • Firms are required to submit extracts from their systems for the relevant data requirements in order to conduct the analysis. Expand will work closely with the client to map all costs to the normalized taxonomy framework used to compare the firm.

Related products

  • The IB-focused product forms part of the Operations Maturity Assessment (OMA), combining the quantitative output of the intensity analysis with a deeper view of the business requirements, operating model and client perception to give a full view of the overall maturity and performance of IB Operations.
